Quilts for Childhood Cancer Patients
Cancer is the leading cause of death caused by disease
in children under the age of 15.
Imagine you as a ten-year-old girl or boy who has been diagnosed with cancer and told that you must leave your home and travel many miles to Denver for treatment that may last three, four, or more months. You can no longer go to school or play with your friends. What do you think a personal quilt made by a special someone might mean to that child as they go through their struggles?
The Colorado and Wyoming Lions have joined together to provide support and aid to the kids suffering from cancer, their families, and to the organizations supporting them – Ronald McDonald House and Brent’s Place. Providing quilts to the kids is a major part of that program.
We are looking for volunteers to make the quilts. We are working with Brent’s Place (see video link below) who will distribute the quilts to families in their facility. They indicate they have about 120 families in the facility in a years’ time. So, we have set that as our target – 120 quilts. We are reaching out to many quilters and quilting groups to assist in this goal.
The quilts should be approximately 50 x 70 inches. We will provide two material patches with the Lions and Brent’s Place logos. We ask they be incorporated into the quilts, but beyond that the design is up to you. We would also encourage taking photos as you make the quilts that we can post on our Facebook page,
Anyone interested should email us at CWLionsChC@gmail.com or call/text 720-334-0114. We will mail you the material patches and final instructions.
When complete, the quilts and the information sheet should be mailed to
